Smoked-Coconut Fish Curry



Smoked-Coconut Fish Curry


Ingredients:

  • Fish-1//4 kg
  • Tomatoes-1
  • Green chillies-2
  • Coconut pieces -1 cup(10-12 pieces)
  • Shallots - 10-12 nos
  • Dry red chillies-3
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Fennel seeds (perinjeerakam)-1/2tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Black peppercorns-1 tblsp
  • Turmeric powder-1 tsp
  • Criander powder - 2 tsp
  • Tamarind - lemon sized


Method:

Remove the skin of the coconut pieces. Arrange the them in a knife and show directly on fire.



Similarly do the same process for shallots.



Soak the tamarind in water.




Keep ready all the ingredients for grinding.




Grind all the ingredients to a fine paste.



In a clay pot dry roast the fenugreek seeds until dark brown.



Then add the ground mixture to it.Add required amount of water and salt.



Then pour the tamarind water.


Add the sliced tomato and green chillies.



Once the masala boils,add the fish.Let it cook in full flame for 5 min.



Simmer the flame after 5 min and cover it with a lid.



Finally add the curry leaves.Serve hot with rice.

Varutharacha Fish Curry




Ingredients:


  • Fish--1//2 kg
  • Vegetables used-drumstick,ladysfinger,brinjal
  • Tomatoes-1
  • Green chillies-2
  • Raw Mango -1
  • Grated coconut-1 cup
  • Shallots-8-10nos
  • Dry red chillies-3
  • Curryleaves-few
  • Fennel seed (perinjeerakam)-1 TSP
  • Coriander seeds- 1tblsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 TSP
  • Black peppercorns-1 tblsp
  • Turmeric powder-1 tsp




Method:

Dry roast coconut with shallots,red chillies,curry leaves,fennel seeds,peppercorns,coriander seeds until dark brown.Add turmeric powder and switch off the stove.






Grind the roasted ingredients into a fine paste.

                                                 

Cut the vegetables drumstick,ladysfinger,mango,tomato and green chillies. You can also use eggplant.





In a pan add oil and lightly roast fenugreek seeds Until golden brown.





To this add the grind masalas and vegetables and wait for it boil.









Once it boiled add the fish And let it cook in full flame for 15 to 20 min.





After 20 min, simmer the flame and close the pan with a lid slightly opened.


Finally add curry leaves and switch off the gas. Serve it with aappam or rice.


Notes:

  • You can use tamarind instead of mango.
  • Using drumstick gives a nice flavour to the curry.
