Chicken Porridge /Nombu Kanji



Chicken Porridge / Kozhi Kanji / Nombu Kanji


Ingredients:
  • Raw Rice - 1 cup
  • Chicken - 250g
  • Channa Dal - 3 tbsp
  • Carrot - 1 small finely chopped
  • Big Onion - 1 medium sized finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium sized roughly chopped
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 inch piece
  • Cloves - 2 
  • Cardamom - 2 whole 
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Green Chillies - 2
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1.5 tsp
  • Fennel Powder - 1 tsp
  • Mint Leaves - 1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Thick Coconut Milk - 1 cup
  • Water - 4 to 5 cups
  • Coriander Leaves - 1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Salt - to taste 
  • Oil - 2 tsp




Method:

Soak rice and dal for 1/2 an hour. Break the soaked rice with your hands.



Heat oil in a pressure cooker add cloves,cardamom and cinamon.Then add onion and saute until it becomes transparent.




 Once the onions become transparent,add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies. Saute until the raw smell of ginger-garlic goes off.



Add the chopped tomatoes. 


Then add chicken,carrots along with all powders along required salt.Saute for 2 mins. 



Add soaked rice and chana dal .



Add  coriander leaves and mint leaves along with 4 to 5 cups of water.



Finally add coconut milk and cook for another 10 min .




Delicious chicken porridge is ready to serve.
