Medhu Vadai / Uzhundu vadai


  • Urad dal / Ulutham paruppu (no skin variety) - 1 cup
  • Green chillies - 1 finely chopped
  • Onion - 1cup chopped
  • Curry leaves - 2 tsp finely chopped (optional)
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp crushed (optional)
  • Pepper - 1/4 tsp crushed 
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as required
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Hing - a small pinch

Soak urad dal for an hour and grind to a fine paste without adding water(you can add little water.)

Once the batter is ready, add rice flour,asofetida , soda and salt. 

In another bowl add chopped onions, black pepper, crushed ginger , crushed pepper, coriander, curry leaves, green chilies and red chillies ..

Add the batter mixture to it and keep aside.

Wet your hand, then make a small ball .Now make a hole in the middle and carefully transfer it to the kadai.

Fry the vadai in medium flame and drain it in a tissue once it becomes golden brown on both sides.Serve it with chutney.
